When the six of them walked into our first Sunday session last September, exactly none had ever read a balance sheet. By May, they were standing on a national stage in Anaheim being scored by industry judges on graphic design promotion and virtual branding โ and winning.
A year in a Sunday classroom
Business Professionals of America is the country's leading career and technical student organization: 60,000+ members across 1,800 chapters. Beyond Young is the New Jersey chapter, which means our students compete for real โ regionals in winter, states in spring, and for the ones who qualify, Nationals.
Prep is thirty sessions, Sundays 7โ9 PM. Half of every session is craft โ finance, market research, presentation design. The other half is reps: timed run-throughs, judged by the coach, scored on the same rubrics BPA uses.
What the judges score
Every event has a public rubric, and we train straight to it: clarity of the business case, visual craft of the deliverable, and the live Q&A where judges push back and score how students think on their feet. It's the same muscle as a college interview โ which is exactly why parents keep telling us the prep pays off far beyond the trophy.
Want your child in the next cohort? The 2026โ27 Sun Business Competition class starts this fall โ Sundays 7โ9 PM, grades 6โ12.
Register for Fall โThe moment on stage
Awards night at Nationals is a full arena. When "Beyond Young Academy โ Millburn, New Jersey" came over the speakers the first time, the six of them were on their feet before the category finished announcing. Two First Place finishes. One Wall-of-Fame honoree. A very loud row of parents.
What's next
The trophies are in the studio window on Millburn Avenue โ come see them. The next cohort starts in September, and the first regional is in January. AMC and Math Kangaroo award rounds follow in the new year, and yes, we'll write those up here too.
