In Mr. Song's sculpture class, kids move past drawing and painting into real three-dimensional building — cutting, bending, and joining actual materials the way a working sculptor does. He trained at CAFA under Sui Jianguo, one of the pioneers of Chinese contemporary sculpture, and his own large-scale work now sits in museum collections in Sydney and Beijing. Mr. Sherman tutors one-on-one, so the hour is built entirely around what a specific student is stuck on — physics one week, statistics the next, whatever the transcript needs. He works with middle schoolers through college students, which means he's used to explaining the same concept three different ways until it lands.
