This is what a snack run looks like for us: a checkout belt full of bananas, on the way back to 374 Millburn Avenue before the afternoon classes begin.
Why there is a snack at all
School lets out in the middle of the afternoon, and for most children that is a long stretch since lunch. A child who walks into a math or art class hungry is not really in the room yet. So when children arrive at Beyond Young after school, there is a healthy snack ready for them. It is included in tuition, so you do not need to send one from home. Simple food a parent would pack themselves, like the fruit in this photo. It is a small thing, and it makes the first part of class go better.
That sign at the checkout
If you shop at ShopRite around Millburn, you have probably seen it without noticing: the plastic bar that separates your groceries from the next shopper's. Our sign is on some of them. It lists what we teach, from math and reading to art, robotics, public speaking, and competition prep, and it carries a QR code that goes straight to our tryout class sign-up.
We put it there for a simple reason. A weekday afternoon in Millburn does not happen on a billboard. It happens in the checkout line, with a cart full of bananas.
If the sign brought you here
Welcome. Beyond Young Academy is a community academy for art and academics at 374 Millburn Avenue. The easiest way to see what we do is the same thing the QR code does: come to a tryout class. It is one full session with the teacher and the class, for $35, and the $35 counts toward your first month if you enroll.
Curious what the sign is about? Pick a class and a time, and come see for yourself.
